The Catholic community in Kuwait gathered in celebration and prayer at the Holy Family Co-Cathedral, Kuwait City, on May 8, 2026, at 9:15 AM, to mark the First Anniversary of the Election of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV as the Holy Father of the Catholic Church.
The Mass Presider
The Holy Mass was presided over by His Grace Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent, Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar (AVONA — Apostolic Nunciature of the Vatican on the Arabian Peninsula). Archbishop Nugent has served as the Vatican’s diplomatic envoy to the Arabian Peninsula since his appointment by Pope Francis on January 7, 2021.
A Solemn and Diplomatic Occasion
The celebration was graced by the presence of members of the diplomatic corps and distinguished guests, reflecting the significance of this occasion not only for the Catholic faithful in Kuwait but also for the wider international community. May 8 marks the date in 2025 when the College of Cardinals elected the new pontiff, now known as Pope Leo XIV.
