The Resurrection of Our Lord celebrated at STCJ, Salmiya
On April 4th and 5th, 2026, the Parish of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus in Salmiya became a radiant centre of spiritual renewal as the community gathered for the Easter Vigil. These Services were marked by an atmosphere of profound stillness and joyful anticipation, as parishioners from all walks of life converged to witness the transition from the sombre shadows of Holy Saturday to the glorious light of the Resurrection.
The celebration commenced with the Service of Light in the church courtyard, where a new fire was kindled to cut through the evening air. From this blessed flame, the Paschal Candle was lit as a towering symbol of Christ’s victory over death, and as it was processed through the sanctuary, the darkness was pierced by the collective glow of the Liturgy of Light.
The spiritual depth of the evening was further elevated by the traditional chant of the Exultet. As the Easter Proclamation echoed through the halls, hearts soared with the announcement of the King’s triumph. This sense of victory was made personal during the Renewal of Baptismal Promises, where the congregation stood as one body to recommit themselves to a life of grace. As holy water was sprinkled throughout the pews, it served as a refreshing reminder of the community’s shared identity and spiritual foundation.
Reflecting the vibrant, international character of Salmiya, the Vigil services were uniquely inclusive, conducted in multiple languages and across various rites. This tapestry of traditions highlighted the universal nature of the faith, proving that while languages may differ, the message of the Resurrection remains the singular, unifying hope of the world.
As the bells tolled and the “Alleluia” returned to the liturgy, the parishioners of St. Thérèse emerged not just as witnesses to a historical event, but as a people of light, carrying the flame of the Risen Lord into the year ahead.
