Day of the Poor 2026 – A Feast of Fraternity and Love

Day of the Poor 2026 – A Feast of Fraternity and Love

Every year, since 2017, the Church celebrates the World Day of the Poor on the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time — a day instituted by Pope Francis to remind all Catholics that the poor are at the very heart of the Gospel. It is a call to “go forth” beyond comfortable boundaries, into the peripheries where countless men and women struggle daily with economic hardship, loneliness, and exclusion.

Inspired by this vision, the faithful of the Catholic Church in Kuwait came together on January 22, 2026, to celebrate this beautiful day of solidarity and compassion. Under the dedicated leadership of the parish clergy, volunteers, donors, and well-wishers joined hands to extend a warm welcome, heartfelt friendship, and practical support to the most vulnerable among our sisters and brothers in Kuwait.

Thanks to the generous outpouring of donations from the parishes of Kuwait and from sponsors both locally and abroad, the day was marked by a sumptuous buffet, a joyful programme of entertainment, and take-away gifts for every guest. Men and women of all nationalities and backgrounds sat together as one family, sharing a festive meal and the warmth of genuine human solidarity — a living witness to the love of Christ.

We are deeply grateful to all our organisers, volunteers, sponsors, donors, supporters, and well-wishers who made this day possible. We especially acknowledge the gracious and prayerful presence of His Excellency Bishop Aldo Berardi, whose blessing and pastoral warmth graced the occasion and inspired all those gathered; Fr. Antony Lopez OFM Cap., Chancellor of AVONA, and the members of the clergy for their whole-hearted support and encouragement throughout.

As we reflect on the success of this celebration, let it be a renewed call to each of us to reach out to those in need — not only on one special day, but throughout the year. Poverty wears many faces in our world and in our community here in Kuwait. Many struggle silently with low wages, job loss, loneliness in a foreign land, and exclusion from mainstream society. We can, and must, do something.

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.” — Proverbs 19:17
