The Mass of the Lord's Supper — A Pontifical Celebration at Holy Family Co-Cathedral, Kuwait
April 2, 2026
The Catholic faithful of Kuwait gathered at the Holy Family Co-Cathedral in Kuwait City on Maundy Thursday, April 2, 2026, to commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood. The solemn Mass of the Lord’s Supper was presided over by His Grace, Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent, Titular Archbishop of Domnach Sechnaill and Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar.
Standing majestically near the shore of the Arabian Gulf, the Holy Family Co-Cathedral — dedicated to The Holy Family in the Desert — served as a fitting spiritual home for the diverse international Catholic community of Kuwait as they entered the Sacred Triduum. In the spirit of Christ’s humble service, the Mass included the traditional Washing of the Feet (Mandatum), a powerful symbol of servant leadership drawn from the Gospel of John.
The Mass marked the opening of the Easter Triduum, drawing together the co-cathedral’s vibrant multicultural congregation — Filipinos, Indians, Lebanese, and Catholics from across the world — united in faith as pilgrims in the desert.
