Good Friday Service at STCJ, Salmiya

Good Friday Service at STCJ, Salmiya

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13

On April 3rd, our STCJ Salmiya Parish family gathered in solemn prayer to observe The Passion of Our Lord. From the first break of dawn at 4:30 AM, beginning with the Syro-Malabar Service all through the evening ending with services in English, Tagalog and Tamil our community filled the church for services in various languages, united by the Cross.

The Good Friday services were observed in solemn remembrance of Our Lord’s Passion. The liturgy began with the priests prostrating themselves before the bare altar, followed by the Proclamation of the Word. Our Clergy moved us with a powerful reminder that this Friday is called “Good” because, through the sacrifice of Christ, death was defeated and our redemption was won.

After the Veneration of the Cross, the service concluded as parishioners bowed to kiss the foot of the cross, departing in silent reflection on the price paid for our sins.

The day’s solemnity was further enriched by two profound meditations. The Liturgical Ministry Commission (LMC) led a reflection on the ‘Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross,’ while the Salmiya Parish Youth (SPY) presented ‘The Things He Carried.’ Both meditations offered parishioners a space for deep introspection, focusing on the immense physical and spiritual weight Jesus endured on His journey to Calvary. Through these meditations, the community was invited to contemplate the depth of the sacrifice made for the redemption of our sins.
